Our Vision
We express our aim more broadly in terms of a long-term
vision for Providence Presbyterian Church. This is what we want to see as the product of
our efforts to fulfil our aim. Our vision embraces the following goals:
- A solid, vibrant, growing Reformed church in
Pflugerville. By this we express several things. We want Providence to be
doctrinally sound in its faithfulness to the Scriptures, and we think that compels us to
be Reformed (Calvinistic) in doctrine and practice. We want Providence to be vibrant and
alive in and by our relationship to the living God of the Bible. We want to see both
numerical growth though our outreach and also spiritual growth through the nurture and
edification of believers. But both forms of Biblical growth are given by
God's Spirit; so ultimately, by saying this, we mean that we seek that God would grant an
outpouring of His Spirit abundantly to us in what we understand as revival.
- Salt and light impact (cultural) in
Pflugerville. By this we intend that Providence would apply all of Scripture to
all of life in its teaching and preaching of a full-orbed Christian worldview, and that
the members would make the same application to their own lives, and that the natural
result would be an impact on the entire Pflugerville community and its culture and social
life.
- An impact on Evangelical churches in
Pflugerville and beyond. Believing in the unity in Christ of the whole Church and
being convinced of the truth of our Reformed convictions, we want to be used to influence
other Christians and congregations in the direction of Reformed faith and practice and
worldview.
- An impact on Reformed churches in the Austin
area. We hope to promote mutual encouragement and faithfulness among Reformed
churches in the Austin area in such a way as to strengthen Reformed impact throughout the
area.
- A Reformed Austin presbytery. We aim to
plant additional churches with a shared doctrine and vision throughout the Austin area. We
also aim to be cooperative with and supportive of others in the planting of Reformed
churches. With more than a million people in the metropolitan area, there are more than enough
people to encourage us in the hope of building a strong presbytery here in time.
