Leadership
At Providence, we believe that Christ is the only Head over His church, both universally and locally (1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 5), and that He governs the church through elders (the word "presbyterian" is derived from the Greek word translated "elder; Acts 20; 1 Peter).
The elders of Providence, including the pastor, care for the spiritual welfare of its members and are themselves accountable to regional and national assemblies in a connectional relationship.
Providence believes that in addition to elders, Christ has also appointed gifted men called deacons to relieve the elders of administrative burdens that would hinder their ministry of the Word and prayer (Acts 6).
Both elders and deacons must meet Biblical qualifications for their offices (1 Timothy 3; Titus) and must be elected by church members. To learn more about our elders and deacons, we invite you to read their biographies below.
