The Christian faith is based upon God's self-revelation, not on the conflicting opinions or unreliable speculations of men. The Apostle Paul wrote: "your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God." (I Cor. 2:5)
Many would have us believe that people search for and find God in his or her own way. Romans 3:11 informs us to the contrary: “There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God.” Which do you believe? How shall we know true truth?
In Romans 1, the apostle Paul makes clear that “... the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness” (v.18), and “... when they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, neither were they thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.” (v.21). Clearly we need divine intervention to overcome such perversion.
The Bible is the inerrant word of God to the people of His choosing:
- The world in its wisdom does not know God. (1 Cor 1:21)
- The apostolic message did not originate in persuasive words of human wisdom or insight. (1 Cor. 2:4)
- There is sharp contrast between the words of man's wisdom and those which God reveals to us through the Spirit. (1 Cor. 2:10, 13)
- God commanded the light to shine out of darkness. The light that shines is the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Cor 4:6)
- We receive God's Word not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God. (1 Thess. 2:13)
- No prophecy ever came by the will of man, but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit. ( 2 Peter 1:21)
- The sacred writings which bring us to salvation, every one of them is God-breathed, and is inspired by God. (2 Tim. 3:15-17)
- Jesus said: "Man shall live... by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Matt. 4:4)
- Do not listen to the word of the prophets who speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of God's mouth. (Jer. 23:16)
- Do not allow your faith to be shaken by those who speak of the traditions of men... and not of Christ. (Col. 2:8)
- Human philosophy and human traditions have no place in defining the Christian faith. (Math 15:6)
- God has spoken to us through His Son. (Heb 1:1-2)
- The most comprehensive revelation of God's Word is found in the person of Jesus Christ, who is called "The WORD" (John 1:1; Rev. 19:13)
- The New Testament books, written by the apostles, are the very word of the Lord. (1 Cor. 14:37)
- The New Testament books were received by the early Christian church with the same authority as the Old Testament. (2 Pet. 3:16)
- Christ builds His church upon the foundation of the apostles. (Matt. 16:18; Eph. 2:20; cf. 3:5)
- The Sacred Scriptures are to be distinguished from the uninspired traditions of men which the Bible condemns. (Col. 2:8; Matt. 15:3)
- The Bible is the standard for Christian life. (2 Thess. 3:6; II Pet. 2:21)
- The New Testament books are reliable for teaching in the church. (2 Tim. 2:2)
